The Soil Tech Project

Farm Soil Mapping has been developed through the Soil Tech Project.

In June 2018 Agtech Ideation was awarded a $1.1million grant from the Australian Government’s Smart Farming Partnerships grant program, in partnership with AGRIVision Consultants and the University of Sydney. The grant funded the four-year Soil Tech Project to translate existing soil science into a suite of six innovative digital soil management tools for land managers, using user centred agile development.

The Soil Tech Project brought the disciplines of science and agronomy together with the world of agtech.  Agtech designers and developers have collaborated with senior soil scientists from the University of Sydney and agronomists to build new digital tools that can be used by land managers to better understand and manage their soil.

The project was led by Andrea Koch, who has documented the process so that others can learn how the collaboration worked and use a similar approach. The Soil Tech Project is an exemplar of how science can be translated into practical application through collaborative agile development that is end-user focused.

DigiSoil

DigiSoil is a new Australian digital agriculture company that has been established up to bring Soil Datacube™ and Farm Soil Mapping to the market. DigiSoil are now working with growers and agronomists to build farm Soil Datacubes and generate Farm Soil Maps for farming businesses across Australia.

Soil data is a valuable input for many digital agronomy and farming system management software services. With the permission of the grower, DigiSoil is able to work with third party software providers to share specific farm soil data that can enhance the functionality of their service back to the grower. DigiSoil is now partnering with third parties to put data sharing arrangements in place.
