See your soil.

Know your soil.

If you can see your soil, you can know your soil. And if you know your soil, you can manage production from the soil up, according to the properties and constraints in any one location in the paddock, rather than uniformly across the paddock and down the profile.

What

Farm Soil Mapping is a whole new approach to soil management, based on internationally recognised digital soil mapping science that has been encoded in a set of digital tools.

Farm Soil Mapping tools can be used to build a farm scale Soil Datacube™ that can generate 2D and 3D maps of soil across the paddock and down the profile.

These maps provide detailed insight into the properties and characteristics of the soil, to inform agronomic decisions and increase productivity and sustainability of the farm.

Farm Soil Mapping was developed through the Soil Tech Project, an agile science translation project funded by the Australian Government through the Landcare Smart Farming Partnership Program from 2018 to 2022. The Soil Tech Project team has worked with the University of Sydney to translate digital soil mapping science into the Farm Soil Mapping tools.

DigiSoil is now offering Farm Soil Mapping services commercially for growers across Australia.

DigiSoil works directly with farmers and agronomists to build the unique Soil Datacube™ for the farm and generate detailed and accurate digital maps of the soil, providing deep insights into soil properties, constraints and nutrients across the farm and down the profile in each paddock.

Farmers and Agronomists

Farm Soil Mapping allows agronomists and farmers to build a rich spatial dataset of soil of the farm, a Soil Datacube™.

Once a Soil Datacube™ has been created, it becomes important digital infrastructure for the farm business that can be used to create 2D and 3D soil maps for agronomic management.

DigiSoil respects the privacy of soil data, which belongs to the farmer. Farm Soil Mapping and the Soil Datacube™ services are compliant with the NFF Farm Data Code.

DigiSoil is now working with growers and agronomists across Australia to build their farm Soil Datacube™  and create digital maps of their farm soil.

Agtech Providers

Soil data is a valuable input for many digital agronomy and farming system management software services. With the permission of the grower, DigiSoil is able to work with third party software providers to share specific farm soil data that can enhance the functionality of their service back to the grower.

DigiSoil is now partnering with third parties to put data sharing arrangements in place.

Researchers and Funders

Farm Soil Mapping emerged through an innovative agile science translation initiative. DigiSoil Founder, Andrea Koch led a team of developers, visual communication designers, soil scientists from the University of Sydney and agronomists from AgriVision Consultants and AgInsights Consulting, through a collaborative process focused on delivering powerful new soil management tools for farmers and agronomists.

Science is at the core of the code that has been ground-truthed by agronomists and farmers throughout its development, and Farm Soil Mapping will continue to evolve with a sound scientific and practical in-field approach.

We are keen to partner with RD&E funding bodies, Government NRM agencies and commercial entities to further develop this new approach to soil management.
